Scuba Valve Burst Disk – 3/8-24 UNF Pressure Relief Assembly

This scuba valve burst disk / pressure relief device (PRD) is designed for scuba cylinder valves using the standard 3/8-24 UNF PRD thread. It is compatible with a wide range of commonly used scuba valve brands, including Thermo, XS Scuba, Dive Rite, Sea Elite, Hollis, Blue Steel, and late-model OMS valves.

Valve Compatibility

This PRD assembly is intended for valve designs with a 3/8-24 UNF pressure relief opening.

It is not compatible with 1/2-inch PRD openings, which are found on certain scuba cylinder valves, including some models from Sherwood, Harrison, Genesis, and early OMS valves.

Always verify the PRD thread size and valve specification before installation. Thread size alone should not be used to determine compatibility if the valve model or configuration is unknown.

One-Piece Safety Assembly

The one-piece pressure relief assembly helps eliminate the risk of combining mismatched individual components and reduces the possibility of incorrect component selection during installation.

For customers who specifically require the separate 3-piece 3/8-24 UNF components, these may also be available separately depending on stock. Please contact us if you require individual components rather than the complete assembly.

Release Pressure – Not Cylinder Service Pressure

A burst disk is identified by its release pressure, not by the service pressure of the scuba cylinder.

The release pressure is clearly marked in PSI on the hex head of the assembly. Always make sure that the replacement PRD has the correct release pressure specified for the particular cylinder and valve configuration.

Do not select a burst disk based solely on the cylinder's working/service pressure.

Correct Installation and Torque

Proper installation is essential for the safe operation of a scuba cylinder pressure relief device.

The PRD must be installed using the correct torque specified for the valve and PRD assembly. Incorrect installation can cause serious problems:

• Over-tightening may damage the assembly or cause premature rupture of the burst disk.
• Under-tightening may result in leakage around the PRD.
• Incorrect or incompatible components may compromise the intended pressure-relief function.

For this reason, replacement of a pressure relief device should be performed by a qualified cylinder or valve technician using the appropriate tools and manufacturer specifications.

Cylinder Inspection & Preventive Maintenance

As part of proper scuba cylinder maintenance, the pressure relief assembly should be inspected regularly and replaced when required.

We recommend having the PRD checked and, where appropriate, replaced by a qualified technician during VIP - Visual Inspection Prodecures or whenever the cylinder has experienced an overfill, abnormal pressure event, corrosion, damage, or other condition that may affect the safety assembly.

Regular inspection of the cylinder, valve, burst disk, O-rings, and related components can help identify potential problems before they become a safety concern.
